Urban Hiking

Use the bridges to create loops and variety.

An urban hike poses a variety of options for anyone interested in sightseeing, exercise, exploration, or simply clearing the mind. The paths through a city provide a slower pace of travel than driving or public transportation and allow for unusual discoveries. There’s no need to plan around parking at a trailhead, either.

My walks take anywhere from 20 minutes to all-day and range from a mile to 10+. Bring water and snacks or plan to stop for coffee and refuel. Set a destination and plan a loop.

One path follows along the shore of Fisherman’s Terminal in Ballard.

The Aurora bridge crosses the ship canal.

A beaver pauses on the shore in Fremont.

Catch a sunset on your way home.
